# Sentient Foundation

> Sentient Foundation is a nonprofit organization empowering the development of open-source artificial general intelligence (AGI). The Foundation operates as a neutral, transparent steward of the open AGI ecosystem, ensuring AGI remains open-source, decentralized, and aligned with humanity.

## Mission

To ensure that artificial general intelligence is open-source and never controlled by a single entity, safeguarding its alignment with humanity. The Foundation promotes global adoption of open-source AGI, champions alignment and safety standards, distributes grants to developers worldwide, and coordinates governance frameworks for responsible AGI development.

## Relationship with Sentient Labs

Sentient Foundation is the nonprofit arm focused on governance, grants, community, and advocacy. Sentient Labs (https://sentient.xyz) is a separate technical research and product organization. The Foundation ensures the work coming out of the broader Sentient ecosystem serves the goal of open, aligned AGI.

## Research

The Foundation promotes three core open research areas:

- **ROMA** (Reasoning and Orchestration for Machine Agents) — An open framework for multi-agent AI systems with structured reasoning.
- **OML** (Open, Monetizable, Loyal) — A primitive for open AI model distribution balancing openness, control, and sustainability.
- **ODS** (Open Deep Search) — A framework for search-augmented reasoning using open-source models.

## Open AGI

The Foundation champions Open AGI (https://openagi.xyz), a global movement of researchers, developers, and builders working to keep AGI open and accessible. Open AGI runs curated events including summits, symposiums, salons, hackathons, and community meetups where the people building open-source AGI show up. Every event is built around one principle: AGI should be built in the open, not behind closed doors.

### Sentient Sparks
A monthly contributor program featuring 10 members (6 global, 4 regional). Sparks create content, host community events, onboard builders, and share regional insights with the core team.
